It doesn't matter if you’re just starting out or feel like a pro, you’re going to find somewhere special to take dirt bikes on the Sunshine Coast.

Where to Go With Dirt Bikes For Kids on the Sunshine Coast

We understand that setting off without knowing exactly where you’re going with an electric dirt bike for kids can feel daunting. Are dirt bikes for kids welcome? What if we get moved on and get left with a car full of disappointed youngsters? Can you take your electric balance bike as well?

Fear ye not. We’ve done the research for you and have come up with a stellar lineup of the best dirt bike riding locations on the Sunshine Coast.

One point to bear in mind: the trails in State Forests and National Parks get rated as roads. That means that you must register your dirt bike to ride it.

Beerburrum State Forest

A little south of the Glass House Mountains, this State Forest welcomes those who’ll be dirt bike riding, four-wheel driving, mountain biking or horse riding. You’ll find established forest trails through the pine estates and iconic eucalypt forests.

These roads serve as access roads for those involved in forestry and powerline maintenance. They still, however, provide the chance of a great day out on a dirt bike with plenty of technical challenges thrown in.

The National Park trails around the Glass House Mountains make for some of the very best dirt bike riding opportunities in South-East Queensland.

Glass House Mountains

About 30 minutes drive southwest of the Sunshine Coast and an hour north of Brisbane, you’ll find Glasshouse Mountains National Park, one of the more popular places to ride in South-East Queensland.

There are plenty of shady forest tracks. Some parts are going to challenge even the most experienced riders.

There’ll be lots of other enthusiasts to share your experiences and tips with. That includes other electric dirt bike riders and those into four-wheel driving too. The trails can get busy at weekends. This is the place where you’ll want to unleash the throttle.

The breath-taking volcanic peaks have been around for millions of years. There are more than 120 km of trails available. Take a rest stop at the world-famous Glasshouse Mountains Lookout.

Beerwah State Forest

Located at the southern end of the Sunshine Coast and inland from Caloundra, Beerwah State Forest offers up a massive network of trails to explore. It’s ideal for both beginners to more advanced riders.

Because it’s so close to Beerburrum State Forest and Glass House Mountains National Park, a lot of riders take in all 3 locations for one epic day out.

It’s possible to camp in the Beerburrum and Beerwah State Forests as well as in the local town of Landsborough.

Mapleton National Park

Inland from Nambour, this National Park takes electric dirt bike riding up a notch. There’s some tight technical terrain with some sections that are extremely rocky and bumpy.

This park is best left to more experienced riders rather than beginners. You shouldn’t ride alone here so always come with an electric dirt bike riding buddy.

Larger, heavier adventure motorcycles might struggle with some parts of the trails. That can be a turnoff to some aficionados but means there’s more space for electric dirt bike enthusiasts.

If you fancy staying over, there’s a National Park campsite at Gheerulla.

Coolum Pines MX

It’s possible to have plenty of electric dirt bike fun right on the coast. The Sunshine Coast Junior Motorcycle Club runs the Coolum MX. There are 3 tracks available providing a safe, controlled environment for dirt bike riding.

The star track is a sandy, 1.6km circuit, with plenty of jumps and hard-pack ramps. There’s a 500m beginners’ track for novices where you can also showcase your electric balance bike skills.

This is the ideal place to meet like-minded bikers heading out on weekend trips.

Vernon State Forest

There are plenty of shared tracks for dirt bike and mountain bike riders alike, so you’ll need to be mindful and give other riders lots of space when passing.

There are two entrances here so make sure you take the right one. Toogoom mountain bike entry point isn’t the right one for dirt bikes and you should go for the Takura Trail entrance instead.

The Vernon State Forest doesn’t offer such long or challenging circuits for electric dirt bike riders. It’s a great choice as part of a multi-day adventure but it’s not possible to camp here.
